Somerton Public School is a small rural school located in the village of Somerton, 30 minutes west of Tamworth on the Oxley Highway. The school has an enrolment of 27 students, 9 of which identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and play an important role in the village of Somerton.
Staff and community pride themselves on providing a stimulating and challenging learning environment for all students, with strong parent and community involvement. Staff work hard to foster enthusiasm and a love of learning through engaging, thought provoking and high-quality teaching and learning, catering for the diverse needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
Somerton Public School is committed to providing a sharing of learning with other small schools in the Winanga–li Learning Alliance. Through participation in this learning alliance, they aim to build teacher capacity through a collaborative approach to planning and professional learning, share resources and expertise to increase student outcomes.
