Putland Education and Training Unit (ETU) is located within and provides educational services only to the young people incarcerated at Cobham Youth Justice Centre (YJC). The ETU provides 102 student places at any one time. The current function of the centre is the detention of young men between the ages of 15 to 21 years who have been remanded in custody following their arrest and prior to sentencing and for young people under 16 who are subject to Control Orders. The nature of detainees' offences varies, as does the time taken for their court matters to be finalised. Putland ETU also provides a targeted education program called the Green Centre Program (GCP). This program is designed for young males in custody with significant challenging behaviours or social difficulties who have been assessed as posing increased safety risks to themselves and others and require additional security and support measures to address these. The program aims to maintain student engagement or re-engage in educational pursuits. The unique environment requires staff to demonstrate understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal students and students from Language Background Other Than English (LBOTE), sound knowledge of risk assessment and risk management procedures, commitment to the maintenance of safety and security and the ability to work in partnership with a range of personnel.

The Putland ETU school plan and Annual School Report can be located at the school's website.
