The Parliament Role Play provides an opportunity for Year 5, 6 and 7 students to pass their own law by taking on the roles of a member or officer of the Parliament, including the Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker, Clerk and the Serjeant-at-Arms. A choice of pre-prepared scripts is available, covering a range of topics designed to be accessible to Years 5, 6 and 7 students. The script replicates the passage of a bill through the Legislative Assembly.
Parliament Role Plays are available either at Parliament House or at your school.
Role Plays at Parliament House are offered at 9:30am and 11:00am on non-sitting Wednesdays. Your visit lasts for around 90 minutes and includes a guided tour of the building.
Bookings for role plays at your school are available at 10:00am on non-sitting Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our visit lasts around 90 minutes.
Bookings are essential. There is a limit of 30 students for role plays at Parliament and 60 students for role plays at school.
VCE Role Play:
The VCE Role Play has been designed specifically for Year 11 and 12 VCE Legal Studies students. The VCE Role Play allows students to debate the 2007 Upskirting Bill or the 2011 Dangerous Dogs Bill to gain an understanding of how a law is made, from idea to reality.
The VCE Role Play takes place in the Legislative Assembly chamber at Parliament House, and students are allocated the role of either a member or officer of the Parliament (eg. Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Serjeant-at-Arms, Clerk). Students then follow a script based on actual contributions made during the debates on either bill.
The program has been designed to address relevant units of the VCE Legal Studies curriculum.
VCE Role Plays are offered on non-sitting Wednesdays at 1.00 pm, although bookings for other times may also be available. The duration of the session is approximately 1.5 hours, and includes a short tour of the building.
Bookings are essential. There is a limit of 30 students per role play.
