Nulkaba Public School has a current enrolment of 386 students, comprising of 16 classes. 15% of the student population identify as Aboriginal. The school is located in the village of Nulkaba on the outskirts of Cessnock. Nulkaba Public School is an active and proud member of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools, delivering excellence in student education and innovation through teaching and learning practices, implementing programs such as the Kindergarten speech screening, Project Based Learning and STEM combined Staff Development Day initiatives. The school has a strong partnership with the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG).

The new school build in 2019 has enabled innovative teaching spaces and the incorporation of learning opportunities through modern pedagogical practice. The school has a focus on expected growth from Years 3 to 5 in both numeracy and reading, the number of students in the top two bands for numeracy and attendance and engagement. Extra-curricular opportunities include sport, science, technology, and creative and performing arts, which enables students to excel through a range of different experiences.
