"This trip made it clear that it is important that our school offer a trip to the Northern Territory. There is so much there that a student could take away and I will definitely push for a trip next year." - Ellen Prior, Lara Secondary College, delegate on the 2015 Teachers only excursion to the NT
"I believe that overall the Year 9 Central Australia Camp was an amazing experience to have been able to join. Not many people would have the opportunity to be as welcomed as we were or to have had the same experiences as we did" Student at Viewbank College
"As Year 9 Wellbeing Leader at Viewbank College we had been wanting to change our Year 9 Camp, which had previously been to the Gold Coast, to Central Australia. We believed that our students would have a better educational experience, that it was an opportunity that many students would never have had otherwise, due to costs to take a family or home life, and an experience in one of the most beautiful landscapes and country that we have to offer here in Australia. Therefore we felt that it was an opportunity that we needed to provide for our students and school community." Lisa-Marie O'Connor, Viewbank College, delegate on the 2014 Teachers only excursion to the NT
"Thankyou for the information and for introducing the Northern Territory to us. Our amazing experiences will last a lifetime, and I think everyone should experience NT at least once in their life.
This trip exceeded my expectations in every way, whether it was climbing Kings Canyon or meeting locals such as Deanella, Peter and Christine." Alna Briel, Portside Christian College, delegate on the 2018 Teachers only excursion to the NT
How do I arrange a school trip to the NT for my students?
Either contact:
* Tourism NT at education.tourismnt@nt.gov.au; OR
* one of our experienced local NT tour providers - Remote Education Tours, Overland Oz, Ethical Adventures, Offroad Dreaming or Outback Tour Services OR
* one of our interstate providers including GET Educational Tours, Across Australia Travel, World Strides, Educational Tours and Safaris (EDTS) or Educational Journeys!
Where should I go in the NT?
Everywhere!! Central Australia will offer Aboriginal Culture and sustainability, along with pioneering history and environmental science. The Top End has some fantastic WWII history, national parks for environmental science or P.E, and Aboriginal Culture. A 10 - 14 day trip will allow your group to cover Central and Top End! See our website for sample itineraries, more advice or contact us at education.tourismnt@nt.gov.au
Is the NT dangerous?
Every location has a risk factor. Students will be well looked after by each operator, and the information and safety advice offered by our authorities provides the precautions required. The NT is a popular place to travel, and provides students with a remarkable experience they will remember for a lifetime. All operators can provide a risk assessment if required by the school - or ask your travel provider to put one together for you. Most bus companies/travel providers provide 20mill cover for liability insurance also.
It's too expensive?
Depending on what you do and how you travel, will depend on the cost. Some school trips can cost a minimum of $900 p/student including travel from eastern Australia, food, accommodation and activities. Some trips cost up to $3000. There are often empty buses travelling back from the NT to the eastern states, so you could contact these companies directly to enquire. Alternatively, if there is another school you can team up with, perhaps sharing some relocation costs with them could be beneficial? Contact us for more information. Don't forget the NT Learning Adventures grant for $1500 per group available!
