Newcastle Middle School (Years 5-8) has a current enrolment of 34 students in 7 classes. It is one of three Schools for Specific Purposes sites that make up the Newcastle School (P-12), established in 2012. Located in Waratah, the Newcastle Middle School prepares students with special needs (moderate or severe intellectual disability and complex needs) to meet the challenges of the future. A strong focus is on developing attitudes of willing participation and co-operation and providing a comprehensive quality education. Students are supported to move forward in their independence and reach their full potential. Positive partnerships between families and the wider community are highly valued and play a vital role in enriching student outcomes. In collaboration with parents and carers, the Newcastle Middle School fosters close relationships with NDIS service providers to ensure students are well supported in learning and have a seamless transition between home, school and community life.
