Marrickville Public School is situated on the edge of the industrial area of Marrickville. The school was established in 1864 and has catered to a diverse, fluctuating population for over 150 years of public education. The school’s population is a culturally and socially diverse community.

The heritage-listed school, comprising four sets of buildings, is set amongst spacious playgrounds with significant native gardens. The current school population is 267, of whom 19 identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. 28% of students are from language backgrounds other than English with Vietnamese, Greek and Tagalog being the most common languages spoken. The school is proudly inclusive and supports and celebrates diversity within its community. The school’s values of Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner encourage students to reflect on their actions, consider others and engage in their education.

The school is committed to developing confident, creative and responsible lifelong learners through the provision of high-quality teaching in a safe and respectful environment. Dedicated staff range from beginning to highly experienced teachers. As well as classroom teachers, students are supported by community language teachers (Greek and Vietnamese), three support teachers (LaST and EAL/D) and specialist music, library and gardening staff,

The school is supported by a parent community that hold high expectations for their children to be successful learners and a P&C that plays an integral role in supporting the school.
