Maclean
High School is a comprehensive coeducational secondary school with an enrolment
of approximately 815 students, including 13% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait
Islander students. It is located on the
South Arm of the Clarence River, 20km inland from the coastal town of Yamba on
the North Coast of NSW. Maclean High School is situated on the land of the
Yaegl people. The school has excellent
facilities including expansive grounds, an agricultural farm, two trade training
centres, one in hospitality and the other in construction, upgraded science
laboratories, a modern library, air conditioned class rooms and technology
integrated across the school. The curriculum, class structures and education
programs are designed to accommodate the diverse needs of the community and
provide pathways extending from academic and tertiary education to vocational
pathways including school based apprenticeships and traineeships. Maclean High School follows the
Positive Behaviour for Learning program and is characterised by its inclusive
culture, a focus on each student as an individual, academic success, a broad
senior curriculum and a strong emphasis on wellbeing and support. The school
currently has five support classes, three multicategorical classes (MC), one
intellectually mild (IM) class and one moderate/severe (IO/IS) class. There is
also an active Learning Support team. There is a considerable amount of extracurricular
activity adding significantly to the learning opportunities. The school gains
active support from the Parents and Citizensâ Association, the local Aboriginal
community and members of the local community. The school works with 12 partner
primary schools ranging from larger urban to smaller rural-based schools and is
actively working to forge closer links across the educational and broader
community for the benefit of its students. Maclean High School undertakes
