Lauriston. For life.
Wellbeing:
Students learn best in an environment where they feel nurtured and valued for the unique individuals they are. Our specialist programs encourage students to develop a sense of belonging, resilience and a strong impression of personal integrity and social responsibility.
Curriculum:
Students are encouraged to develop independent learning skills from a young age within a supportive atmosphere. A highly skilled team of teaching staff is committed to maximising the potential of every student and encouraging a life-long love of learning beyond each student’s days in the classroom.
Co-curricular:
An extensive range of co-curricular activities are offered. These include music, sports, community service, debating and public speaking, drama, photography, horse-riding, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and student clubs that cater for many interests.
Senior School
We motivate our girls to be courageous, resilient lifelong learners. We encourage our students to always look forward. Our progressive outlook is reflected in the curriculum and opportunities offered to our girls in the Senior School which provide the ability for girls to choose subjects that they’re interested in and will do well in. We set expectations high, linking to our values, courage, relationships and engagement in life in everything we do.
Junior School:
Strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy as well as specialist and enrichment programs. In Prep and Year 1, we implement the Australian Developmental Curriculum (ADC), developed by high respected academic Kathy Walker. ADC emphasises skill development and acquisition of understandings and skills through a balanced curriculum that seeks to actively engage children in investigations, play and explicit teaching.
Kindergarten:
Inspired by Reggio Emilia, our 3-4 year old Kindergarten programs are grounded in robust inquiry and play-based learnings which support children as they are challenged to solve problems and engage with their community and the environment. This combination of an expertly planned curriculum with rich learning environments means our children can immerse themselves in both child and teacher-led play, learning to embrace new experiences, build social skills and develop their curiosity. The end result is children who can express themselves with confidence, have developed key foundational skills in literacy and numeracy and above all, enjoy learning.
Year 9 at Howqua:
Year 9 is a crucial period of development in a girl’s life. One where she needs to feel supported and actively challenged, to develop the resilience to be an effective agent of her own destiny. Lauriston’s world-class Year 9 Howqua Program is a residential program that is transformative in the way it addresses challenges faced by girls at this age. Located in the Victorian High Country, Howqua comprises extensive and progressive academic, outdoor and wellbeing programs which encourage the girls to become ethical, compassionate, and global citizens. The unique environment enables the acquisition of new skills such as teamwork and resilience, and participate in outdoor pursuits that build leadership qualities, strength, and confidence.
