Hamilton South Public School (HSPS) is a Newcastle inner city school, consisting of 16 mainstream classes and three classes for students with disability. The school’s current enrolment is 418 students, 11% with a Language Background other than English (LBOTE) and 3.3% with an Aboriginal background.
HSPS prides itself on high expectations and being student centred. Core values are respect, excellence, collaboration, care and compassion. Students value a positive school experience, developing lifelong learning skills, striving for academic improvement, opportunities to work towards individual goals and participating in the wide range of programs offered.
The dedicated and highly effective staff at HSPS strive to provide quality learning opportunities for all students. A broad range of programs and initiatives are embedded into school practices. A diverse range of creative arts programs are offered including three bands (training, rock and concert), a string group, choir and Star Struck. A range of extracurricular activities include PSSA sporting opportunities, robotics programs, debating and public speaking. Student wellbeing programs are well developed as an integral part of student learning and individual support.
HSPS has strong ties with the school community. A very supportive P&C have a strong voice in school improvement and responsibility for the school canteen. A dedicated team of parents assist with transition programs and fundraising events throughout the year. The students, staff, parents and carers are proud of their school and continually build on school strengths and strive to improve.
