Greta Public School is centrally situated in the Hunter Valley, twenty minutes drive from Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton. The school has an enrolment of 195 students, including 11% of students identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and a small number of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school currently has a mix of experienced and early career teachers who promote the implementation of quality teaching and learning programs and academic growth.
As an Early Action for Success (EAfS) school, we utilise a strong Instructional Leadership model to improve teacher practice and student outcomes and implement programs that include: Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) in Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 classrooms, Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN) and CHOOSE Maths. In addition, the school is in the process of implementing the evidence-based pedagogy of Explicit Instruction.
We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, a proud member of the Rutherford Learning
Community and enjoy strong relationships across our local schools. We foster a
close-working partnership with our Parents and Citizens Committee (P&C) and
the wider community. The school provides a range of extracurricular activities.
Our Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (JAECG) meets regularly and
is an important entity within the school.
