Goonellabah Public School is located on the Northern Ridge residential area of Lismore. We serve a diverse student population of 284; 46% of our students are from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background. We provide a caring, happy and safe educational environment where children can learn and develop as individuals. We value mutually respectful relationships and individual responsibility to ensure all students are known, valued and cared for. Our school is involved in the Early Action for Success (EAFS) strategy supporting staff and students K-6 in literacy and numeracy. Staff strongly support the Aboriginal Education and Training Policy goal that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will match or better the outcomes of the broader student population. As a result, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have a ‘Personalised Learning Pathways’ developed in consultation with their family. Our welfare programs include Positive Behaviour for Learning and You Can Do It, focusing on the needs of the whole student. The district Opportunity Class is based at our school. This class provides intellectual stimulation and an enriched environment for academically gifted and talented children in Stage 3.
