DRAMA NSW is the official, professional body which represents the teachers of Drama in NSW. is run by, and for, early-childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary teachers, drama practitioners, and theorists. is affiliated with Drama Australia, and the International Drama/Theatre and Education Association(IDEA). is available to individuals, related organisations and institutions (schools, academic and arts institutions).

THE AIMS OF DRAMA NSW

a)  to promote the recognition of Drama in education as a valuable and valued part of education. 

b)  to encourage the study and development of Drama in education as a teaching method and as an expressive art form.

c) to assist teachers, students and others interested in Drama in education.

To promote these aims, Drama NSW conducts a wide range of activities to encourage and support the teaching of Drama throughout the state. It is actively involved in representing the needs of Drama educators in the development and implementation of curriculum and policy. It liaises with relevant organisations, particularly those related to education and the arts.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Members of Drama NSW become part of an active network of arts educators who support each other and promote Arts Education at both a state and national level. Through Drama NSW membership, individuals and institutions have access to discounted registration prices for the Annual State Conference and all professional development workshops. Drama NSW members are affiliated to The National Association for Drama Education (Drama Australia) and the International Drama/Theatre and Education Association (IDEA) and the world congress, receiving discounts for attendance at their conferences. Drama NSW members are also offered industry rates for performances at many Sydney theatre companies. Members receive 2 copies of JEDA (the Journal of Education in the Dramatic Arts) per year and for those who take the option - 2 ongoing professional publications from Drama Australia: NJ (National Journal) and ADEM (Australian Drama Educational Magazine).

MEMBER CONTRIBUTION

Members are invited to participate in the management of Drama NSW through general meetings, special projects, or as an elected member of the Committee. Members are encouraged to contribute to the website, publications and workshops/presentations.
