Diocese of Darwin

Recruitment and employment / Last updated 5 years, 2 months ago

Our diocese is immense, covering an area about three times the size of France. We stretch from the Tiwi islands in the north all the way to the Santa Teresa parish which is about 80 kilometres south of Alice Springs. Then from Gove and Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria all the way to the Western Australian border. Despite such immense distances and variety there is a wonderful sense of being one family. This is a great tribute to the people of the diocese as we have an extraordinary diversity within our community. About one third of the diocese is made up of Indigenous people. We are blessed to have communities in Daily River, Wadeye, Tiwi islands and Santa Teresa. Throughout the diocese we have somewhere between 80 and 100 different nationalities represented. The average age of the people in our diocese is about 30. Much of our time and concern is taken up planning and financing new schools and planning new parishes. Whilst this is stretching us, it is very exciting and life giving.
