Cootamundra High School (309 enrolments, 13% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students) is a co–educational high school that provides quality education in a rural setting. Located in the NSW Riverina, one hour from Wagga, Cootamundra High School draws students from Cootamundra and the surrounding districts and has an established and productive relationship with its partner primary schools, especially Cootamundra Public and EA Southee Public schools. It has an established reputation for academic, sporting and cultural achievement and plays an active role in the community.
School programs cater for the divergent needs of students including a Support Unit with three multi-categorical classes, Vocational Education and Training courses at the local Cootamundra TAFE and an offsite Outreach and Re-Engagement centre. A wide and varied extra-curricular program further enhances the learning opportunities for our students enabling all students to Connect, Succeed and Thrive at CHS. As a Positive Behaviour for Learning school, with the underpinning core values of Respect, Responsibility and Excellence the school aims to develop in students: a sense of social responsibility; a caring attitude to others and confidence in social interaction; a sense of personal responsibility, self-reliance and self-esteem; and a sense of achievement by providing opportunities for all students to realise their potential in academic, sporting and cultural pursuits.
The school’s focus is currently on:
- creating a stimulating and engaging learning environment underpinned by high expectations and teaching practices to enhance and accelerate learning,
developing an aspirational learning culture which supports the cognitive, emotional, social and physical wellbeing of students, and
fostering effective, collaborative and meaningful partnerships with parents and community.
