Bridge Road School is a School for Specific Purpose catering for 42 students K-6 who have been diagnosed with an emotional (ED) disability. The School offers an intensive, specialised behavioural intervention program for young children with mental health and autistic disabilities. The school is located in the inner city suburb of Camperdown. The school population is divided into 6 classes, with each class being staffed by a teacher and a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO). Up to 20% of students are from an Aboriginal background. Bridge Road School is a specialist setting with expert staff providing intensive intervention for complex learners. The school is welcoming and friendly and fosters respectful relationships. 5 classes operate on a 4 day/1 day delivery model while 1 class is a 5 day ED/Autism class. The staff at Bridge Road believe that through consultation, collaboration and positive communication students can ‘cross the bridge’. Staff help students develop the skills to think clearly, speak confidently and make informed choices. It is an expectation that all students are Safe, Respectful and Responsible Learners who Build Resilience. Through the school’s varied but relevant teaching and learning programs, students develop skills for relationship building through positive communication.
