Bonville Public School is a small rural school of 126 students. The school is located 12 kilometres south of Coffs Harbour and is nestled between rural farmland and the Bongil Bongil National Park. The school has a proud history of academic and sporting success. The school offers a balanced education across the curriculum which focuses on enriching the whole child. The school offers a wide range of extra curricula activities including choir, band, dance, representative sport and kids in the kitchen. Student leadership across K-6 is actively promoted.
The school enjoys strong partnerships with community organisations including Bonville CWA, Rotary and Southern Cross University. We are also a proud member of the Bongil Bongil Community of Schools. The school has a 'Family, Occupation, Employment, Index' (FOEI) of 99 based on educational disadvantage related to socio-economic background of students from a mean of 100.There are 5 classes, 3 permanent teachers, 1 Principal, 1 Assistant Principal and 3 temporary full and part time teachers and a Learning and Support Teacher 2 days per week.
In 2021 the school undertook a detailed external validation and a situational analysis involving consultation with students, staff, parents, school P & C and the wider community to ascertain current strengths and areas for future improvement. These findings have been included in the school vision and the school's strategic directions for the next four years. These include: growth & attainment, specifically reading and numeracy, wellbeing and attendance and using data to inform practice.
The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.
The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
