Blaxland High School is a large comprehensive and co-educational high school in the lower Blue Mountains, with a current student enrolment of 998. 54 students identify as Aboriginal. The school includes an Autism support unit. The Blaxland High School community values learning, effort and achievement. Blaxland High School enjoys a reputation for outstanding academic, sporting, performing and creative arts achievements. The school provides a broad curriculum, including academic extension programs, diverse electives and vocational programs. The school offers extra-curricular activities in Art, Dance, Drama, Vocal and Band. Opportunities are provided in a wide variety of sporting and public speaking/debating competitions and students actively engage with the Premier’s Sporting, Reading, Volunteer and Debating Challenge programs. The school has a comprehensive transition program and has implemented a Mental Fitness Model of student wellbeing which includes a transition program for students with elevated levels of anxiety to foster resilience and independence. Blaxland High School has a sports centre with two full size basketball courts, a dedicated performing arts centre, and a senior café. Staff are committed to collaborative and collegial professional learning. Families have high expectations for their children and high expectations of the school to deliver quality educational programs in a safe and respectful environment. The school has forged productive relationships with partner primary schools as part of the Lower Blue Mountains Learning Community, the Penrith Education Alliance of secondary schools as well as with the University of Western Sydney through its Fast Forward Program. Strong relationships with many and varied organisations in the community and business sector have been developed to enhance and support teaching and learning programs.
