Belmont High School is a comprehensive high school located in the southern suburbs of Newcastle. The school was established as the first comprehensive school outside of Newcastle in 1953. In addition to a strong academic focus the school has a long history of success in the creative and performing arts, trampoline and diving. The school has strong links with its partner primary schools, Belmont, Belmont North, Floraville and Jewells as part of the Belmont Learning Community.
Some improvements have been made to buildings since the school was established but many of the facilities are still in their original state. A major building upgrade is currently underway developing a new special education learning environment and upgrades to Administration, TAS and CAPA facilities.
Belmont High School currently has 5 special education classes catering for IM, IO, MC and Autism students.
School enrolment currently sits at 901 and the Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is 111 which places the school above state average of 100 for disadvantage.
