With 565 students, including 11% Aboriginal students and 11% ESL, Bathurst Public School has a mix of 20 mainstream classes, 5 support classes, integration programs operating K-6, and a staff of 60; including itinerant teachers, the Home School Liaison Officer and specialist teachers.

Bathurst Public School is a Kids Matters School and has extremely strong Wellbeing programs. We have a School Chaplain who supports the pastoral care of our children. We also support children with a breakfast club 5 days per week and a very strong Wellbeing Committee and Learning Support Team.

Our School embeds 21st Century learning skills through extensive programs and supported learning for all staff. This includes the 'Learning Thinking Scope' which involves learning clarity, thinking questions, thinking talk, thinking feedback, visible learning and formative assessment along with our highly successful Instructional Rounds.

Our data indicates a growing number of students requiring additional support. Teachers and Parents write Personalised Learning and Support Plans together and support is tailored to the needs of each child. The school funds a Speech Pathologist for speech intervention and language development, a School Counsellor provides support 3 days per week and many children are referred to the Learning and Support team for additional assistance.  Our NAPLAN data indicates a continued need to focus on Writing and Reading.

A strong, dedicated P&C and Aboriginal Committee supports the school in achieving its goals through an open and consultative partnership. Our active school community manage several sub committees under the P&C, providing support for student learning, welfare and parents. These include the Uniform Pool, Book Club, School Canteen and Mothers and Father’s Day breakfasts and stalls. We also have extensive partnerships with local organisations to support the children and families.

The Itinerant Assistant Principal is based at Bathurst Public School and is responsible for an administrative/teaching caseload within a group of schools. The successful candidate must have an ability and willingness to travel between work sites.
