Metaphors and Meaning

In this lesson plan, students use J.M. Coetzee's The Lives of Animals to explore the use of animals in language (e.g. simile, metaphor, analogy), how attitudes towards animals are reflected in language choice, and how this may influence the audience.

Voiceless has three Loan Kits (each containing up to 30 copies of the novel) available to Australian high school teachers free-of-charge. Please email education@voiceless.org.au to apply for a Loan Kit of The Lives of Animals
