How I learnt to focus on students' basic needs
I must admit that although the name was familiar, for a long time I thought Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs was a mathematical problem similar to Pythagoras Theorem or Euler’s Equation; something I knew was significant in certain fields but a solution to a problem I didn’t think I had.
When overseeing outdoor ed experiences, remember, basic needs – breathing, food, water, shelter, clothing – need to be met before students can start to think about reaching their full potential.
