For a large number of children and young people, education in a mainstream setting is not their preferred option. Many instead are educated in a home setting, as part of a home schooling community, while some attend non traditional school settings designed to meet their individual learning needs or access distance education materials. So what do these children and young people do when it comes to learning away from their main education site? Do they have the same access to excursions and off site learning experiences as their mainstream peers? And when they do attend excursions, what are the benefits they obtain from them?
