Position Information
St Ives High School is a comprehensive coeducational high school with a current enrolment over 1770 students. 32% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds and the gender balance is approximately 57% boys and 43% girls. An Autism class is being established this year which will operate alongside two long established Hearing Support classes. St Ives High School also is home to an Intensive English Centre, a long running high performance and gifted education program and a substantial learning and support program, all of which are valued by the community. There have been significant advances in infrastructure in recent years resulting in improved teaching and learning facilities including a new gym which is about to be extended, in a joint project with Ku-ring-gai Council. The school’s curriculum structure is based on KLAs and the school runs a substantial student wellbeing program. There is a mix of early career and experienced teachers who have played a significant role in improved HSC results in recent years. The school has an active, supportive and highly engaged P&C and the community has high expectations for student involvement and achievement. Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach Visual Arts Years 7-12 and Visual Design Years 7-10 and willingness to teach Photography and Digital Media Years 7-10, with proven success in the classroom using explicit teaching practices.

2. Demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous programs, which effectively assess student progress, provide quality feedback, and differentiate the needs of all students.

3. Proven capacity in classroom management and effective teaching strategies tailored to the needs of secondary students, including differentiated instruction, assessment for learning, and the use of technology in teaching the visual arts.

4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to build working relationships with staff, students, parents, and the wider school community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
