About you:
The Home Education Unit are seeking a Senior Education Officer who is dedicated and detail oriented to contribute to the policies, systems and processes to support the regulation of students for home education in Queensland.

You have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy in a regulatory environment, make sound judgments and recommendations regarding appropriate course of action, manage a high volume of work, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.

About the Role:

  • Provide assistance to parents who are considering registering their child for home education or who currently have their child registered for home education, to understand their statutory obligations.
  • Perform functions under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 as the Director-General's delegated decision maker in relation to home education.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide information and expert technical advice on home education legislation, policies and procedures to parents considering registering their child for home education or who currently have their child registered for home education.
  • Assess and process home education initial and continuing registration applications made pursuant to the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.
  • Conduct internal reviews as necessary in accordance with the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.
  • Exercise delegated decision making powers in relation to home education pursuant to the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.
  • Liaise with families to assist them to understand the procedural and standard conditions of home education registration.
  • Build and sustain supportive relationships between home educating families and other stakeholders.
  • Support the continued improvement in provision of services and information to home educating families.
  • Assist in the development and management of systems, policies, procedures and practices to ensure the department and Director-General effectively meet obligations under relevant legislation.
