About this job

We are looking for a talented and passionate educator to join our team as a High School Music Teacher and Assistant to the Head of Extra-Curricular Music. 

Reporting to the Director of Music P-12, you will be responsible for teaching of the Music curriculum, across High School (including Stage 6), as well as involvement in conducting vocal ensembles and choirs. This role will also play a key role in the coordination of our vibrant extra-curricular music program.

This is a full time, permanent position started from Term 2, 2026, or earlier by negotiation. You will receive a time allocation for your leadership responsibilities and 50% of a Leadership Level 1 Allowance.

Assistant to the Head of Extra-Curricular Music Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Extra-Curricular music, you will be involved in :

  • Stage Managing, managing equipment, rehearsal schedules and students, in consultation with the Head of EC Music
  • Attendance at and overseeing events, as needed and reasonable, considering the Faculty calendar and in consultation with the Head of EC Music
  • Building and maintaining connections with Music Departments in other Jewish day schools and independent schools, in consultation with the Head of EC Music, for the purpose of developing collaborative events. Enabling additional external performances for community outreach and involvement by Emanuel students
  • Researching, planning and administering ensemble and choir participation in external events, competitions and performances, where appropriate to Emanuel students’ needs and within the sustainable practice, and strategic vision, of the Music Department.

Qualifications and Experience

The following qualifications and experience are essential for this role:

  • Significant successful experience teaching Music to Stage 6 level
  • Strong familiarity with NESA Music syllabuses to Stage 6 level
  • All applicants need to have a relevant degree and teaching qualifications, be accredited with NESA and hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012. 

The following qualifications and experience are highly desirable for this role:

  • Expertise in conducting vocal ensembles and choirs, knowledge of choral pedagogy
  • Experience in the coordination of music events, ensembles and choirs.

 The following qualifications and experience could be advantageous:

  • Given the nature of this highly collaborative P-12 Department, comfort working alongside and contributing to the direction of our K-6 ensembles and choirs, and teaching K-6 music classes
  • Ability to provide refined piano accompaniment for instrumental and vocal performances.

The successful applicant will have proven experience delivering engaging, quality educational programs in classroom Music. They will have outstanding communication and organisational skills and will enjoy working as part of a dynamic team providing a high standard of service and support to students, parents and staff within our broad-ranging music program.
