St Joseph's College Coomera is a Brisbane Catholic Education master planned co-educational College that opened in January 2019. Our first Seniors will graduate in 2024. The College is located in Coomera on the Northern Gold Coast, 40 minutes south of the Brisbane CBD.

The Health, Safety, Risk and Compliance Officer is a member of the College Finance Team reporting directly to the Business Manager and will play a vital role in keeping our school environment and community safe. You will ensure that the school is aware of and compliant with all workplace health and safety regulations, BCEO policies and procedures and other government regulations so that we minimise risk in all areas of school operation.
It is essential that the role holder:
- Deeply understands the core values and ethos of Catholic schooling across the range of college life and always be faithful to the implication of that when dealing with people.
- Demonstrates a high level of communication and interpersonal skills to be able to work successfully with the school community in order to ensure knowledge and compliance with all necessary directions and procedures
- Holds knowledge and experience in ensuring safe work practices
- Can effectively manage their time and priorities to ensure records are maintained and up to date. To do this you must possess confidence and knowledge with the use of Microsoft Office suite – One Note, Sharepoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint as well as the ability to master internal BCE systems and programmes.
- Demonstrates collaborative, supportive and positive work habits within a team environment
Duties of the role include (but are not limited to), the following:
- Provide a source for information, initial advice and support on school health and safety compliance with BCE and legislative requirements
- Undertake workplace health and safety work assigned by the Business Manager, including updating and improving College procedures for changes in system and/or government requirements
- Undertake health and safety compliance inspections, providing recommendations to the Business Manager for follow up actions and improvements. Oversee any follow up required by contractors or staff to ensure the actions are complete
- Undertake health and safety risk and hazard identifications and assessments with regular reporting to the Business Manager
- Assist staff in the compilation of school-based risk assessments
- Assist with the collation of the College risk registers for consideration by the Leadership team
- Work with BCEO Health and Safety Officers to assist with and undertake assigned incident investigations
- Provide and support site specific health and safety training, including health and safety inductions, that meets BCE health and safety requirements
- Assist the Business Manager with the administrative process improvements concerning school health and safety
- Coordinate the WHS committee on behalf of the Business Manager
- Take on the role of S8 Medication Manager and manage the first aid officers, including reviewing student health plans, medication forms and first aid facilities
- Maintain the College Contractor Register, including validating new contractors, providing an induction, regular review of compliance with requirements etc.
- Manage the College Volunteer Register including inductions
- Support the Business Manager, Leadership team and P&F with any event planning by managing the risk assessments, health and safety needs and contractor engagement elements
- Oversee College emergency drills and requirements including building fire safety and bi-annual maintenance of emergency equipment
- Support the Leadership Team with any internal compliance audits or external accreditation reviews
- Be responsible for the College records management procedure including the privacy of, storage and disposal and ensure staff are aware of and comply with the policy.
- Manage the College Blue Card Portal and register
- Assist the Principal with other compliance tasks including project implementation as designated
Tertiary qualifications at Associate Diploma/Diploma level or equivalent qualifications relevant to the position, including for example a Certificate IV in Workplace, Health and Safety, whilst not a prerequisite would certainly be looked upon as an advantage for this role
