Position Information

Bowral High School acknowledges its location on Gundungurra land and was established at this site in 1929. It is a comprehensive high school in the NSW Southern Highlands with a virtual selective stream and a support unit of seven classes. The student enrolment of 602 includes 65 Aboriginal students and an increasing number of culturally and linguistically diverse students. The school has a Family Occupation and Educational Index of 108 and serves families from Bowral, Mittagong and the northern villages of the Southern Highlands. Through effective partnerships, Bowral High School has collaborated with primary school partners to strengthen high school transition and with the broader community to build successful pathways beyond school, including work experience, vocational education and training, school-based
traineeships and apprenticeships, university access and TAFE.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, including:
  1. Capacity to lead an experienced team and support all career stages to implement quality instruction using the teaching and learning cycle that reflects a broad range of NESA Syllabi of HSIE subjects and shows evidence-based pedagogy and differentiation that works for students.
  2. Capacity to lead, model and supervise a faculty to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes active student engagement. 
  3. Ability to deliver HPGE strategies to drive high expectations for all students including improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
